Scissor Blade

Ryuko's Scissor Blade

In preparation for Kawaii Kon 2022 (International Anime Convention), my friend was cosplaying as a character named Ryuko from the anime Kill la Kill. Ryuko's signature weapon is half of a large pair of red scissors as seen in the picture on the left. With one day until Kawaii Kon, I offered to recreate the weapon to complete his costume.

To design the blade, I found a picture online to trace. I planned on laser cutting this project out of wood so it would be lightweight and safe. I decided to make certain parts of the prop layered to give it more of a three dimensional look. Layering the handle was also to create a more comfortable experience for the user.

Cut & Glue

After my design was complete, I found a sheet of unused wood and cut my file. With all the parts cut out, I assembled the scissor blade and glued it together.

Final Step

The last part of this project was to paint it red. I used red spray paint and applied two coats to the blade. I am really glad I was able to do this project and was very satisfied with the result.
